FAQ

Why is natural rubber the base of all our mats?

Rubber is a natural, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly material. For the production of our mats, we use fully tested rubber that contains no artificial, harmful substances like lead, cadmium, latex, or silicone. An important feature of natural rubber is its durability during frequent use. Natural rubber is a dense material and an excellent insulator, which means that even a thin layer provides cushioning. All this makes natural rubber the perfect base for yoga mats.

What makes the PRO and PRO PLUS mats so incredibly grippy?

The top layer of the PRO and PRO PLUS mats is made of the highest quality polyurethane, which has extraordinary properties. It is durable, elastic, incredibly grippy due to its structure, and also odorless. Top-class polyurethane is an expensive material, but only it guarantees the best quality of our PRO mats. Of course, there are many cheaper, lower-grade polyurethanes, but they cannot provide the extraordinary grip that our mats possess. We also know that we are one of the few companies in the world using this specific, high-quality material for the production of yoga mats.

What makes the FLOW mat so soft to the touch?

The top layer of FLOW mats is made of a pleasant-to-touch and durable microfiber, which is printed with environmentally friendly and skin-safe water-based inks. Due to its absorbent properties, it works perfectly during intense practice. What else do we love about microfiber? It is machine washable. This is why keeping our mats clean is extremely simple.

How are the mat layers bonded together?

We bond both the microfiber and polyurethane to the natural rubber base through a heat-bonding process. We do not use any toxic glues in our production.

Where is my mat produced and why?

We produce our mats in China, in a trusted, highly experienced factory with which we have been working for almost 5 years. The main reason for choosing the production site is the availability of natural rubber, which is the base of all our mats. Natural rubber is sourced primarily in Asia and South America. It is not possible to source it in Europe. When founding the brand, we decided that we would try to organize production where the raw material for the product comes from. Our actions are aimed at reducing transport and the negative impact on the environment.

How is my mat transported?

To reduce the negative environmental impact resulting from transport, we bring the mats to Poland by rail.

What is the difference between the FLOW and PRO mats?

The FLOW series mats are designed for dynamic yoga practice. The top layer of the mat is covered with smooth microfiber, which guarantees smooth transitions in sequences. Grip on the mat increases the more warmed up the body is and provides support during the most intense practice. Additionally, the smooth surface of the mat engages the hands and feet, mobilizing them for increased muscle work. The mats are available in three thicknesses - FLOW 3 mm, FLOW Travel 1.5 mm, and FLOW Nano 1 mm.

The PRO series mats are characterized by uncompromising grip. They provide a safe practice without slipping on the mat and full stability during the most advanced balancing poses and when holding asanas for longer. They are great for beginners who are learning new positions and need extra support for their hands and feet. The mats are available in two thicknesses - PRO 2.5 mm and PRO PLUS 4.5 mm.

What is the difference between the FLOW, FLOW Travel, and FLOW Nano mats?

The Travel and Nano mats differ from the FLOW mat only in thickness. They offer the same exercise space while being thinner and lighter than a regular mat. You can fold them into a suitcase or bag and have them with you at all times when you are on the move. You can practice directly on the FLOW Travel mat or, like the FLOW Nano, lay it on top of a studio mat to maintain hygiene.

What is the difference between the PRO and PRO PLUS mats?

The PRO PLUS mat differs from the PRO mat in thickness. It is also the thickest mat in the collection, providing maximum comfort and cushioning for the most demanding yogis. Due to the weight of the mat, we recommend it to people who practice at home or commute to the studio.

What type of practice is the FLOW mat intended for?

The FLOW mat works best for dynamic yoga practice - hot yoga, bikram yoga, as well as pilates and any type of high-intensity exercise, as its grip increases when you get hot.

How to avoid slipping on the FLOW mat?

The FLOW mat is designed with dynamic yoga in mind, which is why its top layer is made of microfiber that activates under the influence of moisture. When you touch it for the first time, you might be surprised by its smoothness and low tackiness, which distinguishes it from traditional mats that offer a firm grip. However, as the practice picks up pace and your hands and feet become moist, most mats become slippery, but not this one. Thanks to its absorbent properties, the FLOW mat ensures stability and grip during the most intense practice. This also means that at the beginning of the practice, when the body is not yet warmed up, the mat may seem slippery. To activate the grip immediately, it is best to slightly dampen your hands and feet with water or gently spray the mat with it.

What type of practice is the PRO mat intended for?

Because of its reliable grip, the PRO mat is suitable for all types of yoga; it is also reliable in pilates and for exercises where stabilization is most important.

What are the exact dimensions and weight of JOY in me mats and how do I choose a mat that fits me?

FLOW Nano mat:

183 cm x 61 cm, 1 mm thick, weighs 1 kg

Very easy to fold into a square. Due to its minimal thickness, it works best as a top layer laid over a mat at a yoga school.

FLOW Travel mat:

183 cm x 61 cm, 1.5 mm thick, weighs 1.7 kg

Lighter and thinner than a regular FLOW mat. Suitable for folding into a square. The appropriate layer of dense rubber provides basic support during practice, which allows you to both practice directly on the mat and spread it out as a top layer on a studio mat.

FLOW mat:

183 cm x 61 cm, 3 mm thick, weighs 2.4 kg

A comfortable mat that you can practice on at home or take to the studio if you don't mind the extra weight on the way.

FLOW LONG mat:

195 cm x 68 cm, 3 mm thick, weighs 2.6 kg

A comfortable mat guaranteeing more space for exercise, recommended for tall people and everyone who needs more room for movement.

PRO mat:

185 cm x 68 cm, 2.5 mm thick, weighs 2.2 kg

A comfortable mat that you can practice on at home or take to the studio if you don't mind the extra weight on the way.

PRO PLUS mat:

185 cm x 68 cm, 4 mm thick, weighs 2.6 kg

A mat for people who do not move with it often and for whom exercise comfort is more important than the mat's portability.

How can I clean my FLOW, FLOW Travel, FLOW Nano, and FLOW Long mat?

It is best to wipe the FLOW, Travel, Nano, and Long mat after each practice with a cloth dampened with water. For more stubborn stains, you can machine wash it at max 30°C. Do not tumble dry or use detergents. After washing, it is best to lay the mat out to dry. To dry faster, you can wrap it in a towel. Do not dry in the sun. Prolonged, direct exposure to sunlight can accelerate the biodegradation process.

How can I clean the PRO and PRO PLUS mat?

After intense practice, the mat should be left unfolded to dry. It is best to wipe it with a cloth dampened with water. For more stubborn stains, you can add a drop of dish soap, lemon juice, or white vinegar to the water. Do not machine wash or tumble dry the mat. Do not leave the mat in the sun. Prolonged, direct exposure to sunlight can accelerate the biodegradation process.

Where do greasy stains on my PRO mat come from?

Applying greasy creams to the skin directly before practice can cause streaks and stains to appear on the mat. Stains created this way should gradually disappear, especially after cleaning the mat several times. However, it is recommended to avoid applying creams, lotions, and any type of greasy skin care products before exercising.

Does the PRO mat contain latex?

The bottom layer of the PRO mats is made of natural rubber, which may contain latex, but the top layer, which has direct contact with the body, is free of it. Nevertheless, if you have a latex allergy, we recommend caution and consulting a doctor to ensure that the mat is completely safe for you.

Do the FLOW and PRO mats oxidize like other natural rubber mats available on the market?

Oxidation or slight changes in texture can be a side effect of natural rubber products. It is important to store the mat in a dry place and not expose it to direct contact with sunlight, as this can accelerate the biodegradation process.

Why is the PRO PLUS mat heavy?

The PRO PLUS mat is heavier than most traditional mats. This is influenced both by the thickness of the mat, which is 4.5 mm, and the nature of natural rubber, which is denser and therefore heavier than synthetic rubber. We recommend the mat for stationary practice - when you commute to a studio or practice at home. You will appreciate it for its excellent cushioning and above-average durability.

Will the PRO mat last me a long time?

How long your mat will serve you depends on many factors, including how often you use it, how intense your practice is, and how you take care of your mat. Natural rubber is a durable material but subject to wear and tear. At the same time, it is 100% biodegradable and does not have a negative impact on the environment like synthetic mats. For us, the best mat is one that, apart from undeniable quality, does not harm the planet. In the case of natural material, however, wear occurs faster than with synthetic materials. As a result of long-term practice, the mat will wear out, which will eventually affect its effectiveness. For this reason, we cannot provide a lifetime warranty on the mat. However, we are convinced that if you take care of it properly, it will be with you for a long time.

What can I do to make the mat lie flat on the floor after unrolling?

If you store your mat rolled up, try to roll it with the printed side facing out. This will cause its corners to adhere to the floor during practice. In other words – store your mat in the form in which it arrived to you from the Joy in me store.

Why am I slipping on my newly purchased FLOW mat?

A newly purchased FLOW mat may seem slippery at first. This is because it is covered with a factory residue that reduces its grip. Caring for health and hygiene, before stepping onto the mat for the first time, it is worth wiping it with a damp cloth or washing it. Thanks to this, the microfiber will soften, offering a better grip, which will ensure your comfort and safety. The more time you spend on it - stretching, strengthening, twisting, and pulling - the more it will adapt to you. It will become soft and grippy. Simply better, just like your practice.

Where does the intense smell of the mat come from?

The smell is not related to the oxidation of any chemical substances, as they are not used during production. It is a smell characteristic of all products made of natural rubber and disappears over time. To accelerate this process, during the first weeks, you can keep the newly purchased mat unrolled, preferably in an airy space, for example with access to a window, but away from the sun.
